The Chicago Blackhawks and Vegas Golden Knights both did very well in this trade.

The Chicago Blackhawks seemed more than likely to trade Mattias Janmark before the 2 PM deadline on Monday. He had been scratched in recent games for precautionary reasons so it was clear that he was as good as gone. He was a great signing for the Blackhawks because he was awesome and allowed the Hawks to get some assets for him. Well, that inevitable trade came when they sent him and a fifth-round pick to the Vegas Golden Knights for a second and a third.

It was also a good trade for the Vegas Golden Knights because they are acquiring a very good middle-six forward in a year that they plan on trying to win the Stanley Cup. They are a deep group in every area of the game so getting a guy like Janmark is incredibly smart of them. With the forwards that they have around him, this is going to be a solid attack on all four lines.

The Hawks are going to have an extra second-round pick in the 2021 NHL Draft now and they upgraded a 2022 fifth-round pick to a 2022 third-round pick. The San Jose Sharks are also involved in the trade as a facilitator to get salaries paid for under the Salary Cap.

The Blackhawks getting that level of a return for Janmark is phenomenal management by Stan Bowman. He has taken a lot of flack over the last few years and deservedly so but this trade was very good for this team going forward. It is up to the scouting department and management team to take advantage of those extra picks.
