Chicago Bears 7-Round Mock Draft: No quarterback in Round 1
5th round: Jamar Johnson, Safety, Indiana
In the second part of the trade, I went safety with Jamar Johnson. The Bears resigned Deon Bush to a one-year deal, but we have to think that they not just comfortable with only Bush and Deandre Houston-Carson playing alongside Eddie Jackson. There is still hope that they bring back Tashaun Gipson, who was arguably the team’s best safety last year.
Rather it is a veteran like Gipson or a rookie, the Bears need to find solid depth at the position. Johnson is a versatile safety that is comfortable coming down into the box or making plays in coverage.
6th round: Shemar Jean-Charles, CB, Appalachian State
Cornerback is a premium position in the league, you can not have enough of them on the roster. Jean-Charles is a physical corner who excels in man-to-man coverage.
6th round: Dez Fitzpatrick, WR, Louisville
Fitzpatrick flashed at the Senior Bowl a couple of months back. A 6-2 202 physical route runner, Fitzpatrick would push for a roster spot against guys like Javon Wims and Riley Ridley.
6th round: Chris Rumph II, Edge, Duke
The defense struggles to be consistent in generating pressure throughout the season. The son of new defensive line coach Chris Rumph, Rumph II is a quick explosive edge rusher that could develop into a solid rotational rusher.
6th round: Erroll Thompson, LB, Mississippi State
Joel Iyiegbuniwe has been a complete disappointment as a former 4th round pick. Thompson is not the quickest linebacker, but his instincts and level of pursuit earn him a career as a third linebacker.
