The Chicago Bears should do whatever it takes to land a good quarterback.

The reason that the San Francisco 49ers have the third overall pick is that they traded up to get it. They believed in something and they went out and did it. It is a respectable move whether it works out or not. They gave up pick 12, a 2022 and 2023 first-round pick, and a 2023 third-round pick to get up to pick three. It was a big-time move that the Bears might be able to recreate.

The Bears don’t have pick 12 to give up but they do have 20. Now, they also are trying to get to four instead of three. It isn’t that much of a difference but it is one less chance of getting the guy they want so it shouldn’t cost quite as much. The difference between 12 and 20 might be able to make up for that.

Now, there are a lot of cons to making this trade. The first is that this pick would mean that the Bears didn’t have four of five first-round picks. That is a lot of years to not have first-round picks and it is hard to win in the NFL without lots of those. If they made a trade like this, they would absolutely need to be positive that they are getting the guy who is going to help them sustain success at the quarterback position for the first time ever.
