Chicago Bears Draft Rumors 2021: Latest QB reports could impact Chicago
By Ryan Heckman
Would a divisional rival complicate things for the Chicago Bears? Maybe.
After the Detroit Lions traded longtime starter Matthew Stafford to the Los Angeles Rams, and took back Jared Goff and his huge contract, they looked to be all in on a rebuild. Goff probably won’t lead them to the promised land, and after they can get out of that contract, they will likely do so.

But, could Detroit already be planning for life after Goff? This soon?
NFL analyst Daniel Jeremiah said earlier this week that he sees the Lions taking a quarterback at pick no. 7 overall, and specifically that quarterback was Ohio State’s Justin Fields.
In his latest mock, Jeremiah noted that “Fields has more upside than Jared Goff,” which is a pretty obvious take. But, the Lions taking a quarterback after taking on that Goff contract would be pretty wild.
Should the Lions go this route, it would throw a wrench in things for Chicago. That would be four quarterbacks going within the first seven picks, leaving just one left for the Bears to try and move up for.
Let’s put these pieces together, quick. With the Broncos and Panthers situation in mind, the Bears wouldn’t necessarily have to worry about any other team taking a quarterback until picks no. 12 (Philadelphia) or 15 (New England). That is, of course, assuming no one else trades up with Dallas (pick 10) or the New York Giants (Pick 11).
Nothing is set in stone, but Detroit taking a quarterback would surely complicate things for the Bears.
