Time is running out for the Chicago Bears to ensure their quarterback room is as good as it can possibly be.

While other teams are making trades to better themselves at the most important position in football this offseason, the Bears have continued to do what they’ve done best: chug along on the path of mediocrity.

Bringing in veteran Andy Dalton would have made much more sense if the depth chart was empty and the team needed a backup or bridge to a rookie. But, Chicago already had a guy like that in Nick Foles — and now they have two of the same.

Fortunately, there is still opportunity for the Bears to do something leading up to the draft, or on draft day, to better the position.

It is going to take a lot for the Chicago Bears to come away with a first-round rookie quarterback.

With the way things have shaken out over the past few weeks, it’s looking more and more like the first round quarterbacks will all be going in the top 10. For those counting at home, that’s five total quarterbacks.

But, that’s just the way it looks at the moment. With how aggressive other teams have been in trading up, like the San Francisco 49ers, it’s appearing as though Ryan Pace is going to have to do something drastic if he wants a first-round quarterback talent.

Not only did the 49ers muddy the waters for the Bears, but there are a few other things going on around the league that are going to affect the team’s chances at getting a top tier quarterback, even if they do plan on trading away the farm.

Three particular reports over the past few days have made things incredibly interesting, starting with what’s going on over in Carolina.
