The Chicago Blackhawks could get a nice return from Boston for Calvin De Haan.

Calvin de Haan has been a pretty solid defenseman for the Chicago Blackhawks when he is healthy. He isn’t a superstar or anything like that but he can just help them defend by just being sound positionally. He isn’t going to wow anyone with his offensive numbers as he only has one goal and seven assists for eight points in 37 games played this season. He also has an extra year on his contract which makes him a little bit more than a rental.

The Bruins defense looks a little bit different than it has in a very long time. The free agency period hit them hard as Torey Krug moved on to play for the St. Louis Blues and Zdeno Chara left to play for the Washington Capitals. Those are monumental losses but there are still some really good pieces left.

Guys like Charlie McAvoy, Brandon Carlo, and Matt Grzelcyk are all awesome so adding de Haan would give them a tremendous top-four. Giving up a second and a seventh (that formerly belonged to the Toronto Maple Leafs) would be wise for Boston in this situation. They have some injuries on the back end right now and some of their depth pieces aren’t playing as well as they need them to. We also know how important depth on the back end is when the playoffs roll around.

If either team sees a trade involving any of these guys as worth it, they’d be smart to make it happen. The Bruins need to be concerned about 2021 and the Blackhawks need to be focused on the future.
