Draft prospects for the Chicago Bears to avoid: CB Shaun Wade, Ohio State

After the 2019 season, it looked as though Ohio State could end up having one of the top cornerbacks in the 2021 class. Wade was a household name that had his eyes set on being a sure fire first-round pick this year.

But, this last season, Wade struggled mightily on the outside. He’s been one of the biggest names to drop significantly over the past few months.

Especially on the big stage last year, Wade was burned several times. He looked like a deer lost in headlights. At this stage, Wade could be looking at hearing his name called in the middle rounds. Maybe a team takes a chance on him in the third, but that team cannot be the Bears.

After letting Kyle Fuller go, the Bears signed Desmond Trufant to take his place. While Trufant is actually an above-average starting corner, his injury history is concerning.

For that reason, the Bears will still need to address cornerback in the draft. Remember, they also let go of their starting nickel corner, Buster Skrine.

Now, maybe Wade finds himself as a slot corner. But, he likely still had a chip on his shoulder and wants to prove himself on the outside.

If the Bears want to go cornerback within the first three rounds (and they very well could), Wade’s name is not the right one to pursue. There are still far too many question marks.
