Draft prospects for the Chicago Bears to avoid: OL Alijah Vera-Tucker, USC

This first one may come as a shock to a lot of folks. After all, Alijah Vera-Tucker could very well be the best interior lineman in the draft this year.

More from Da Windy City

For a while now, there have been countless mocks sending Vera-Tucker to the Bears. While yes, he is an incredible talent, this is a rare case where the Bears should avoid a guy like Vera-Tucker.

They always say to take the best player available, and he might be when the Bears are on the clock. However, the interior of this Bears offensive line should be set. Vera-Tucker is a guy who would come in and start immediately, and the Bears have a great thing going right now.

Down the stretch last season, Sam Mustipher and Alex Bars played very good football. This season, the line will be getting James Daniels back — and who knows, maybe he’s got some competition now.

If anything, the Bears need a tackle to give Charles Leno and the other guys a push. That’s where this team is weak up front. Letting go of Bobby Massie created a hole at right tackle, and it’s doubtful that Germain Ifedi can handle that position when he played better at guard while on the field.

If the Bears cannot get one of the top offensive tackles at pick 20, then they should look at potentially trading back a bit. That is assuming, of course, that Pace hasn’t already tried moving up from that position.

Vera-Tucker is a great player, but the Bears can’t get stuck with an interior lineman at pick 20.
