Chicago Blackhawks: Three veterans to trade away at deadline
The Chicago Blackhawks should trade a veteran defenseman if someone comes calling.
The first two guys on this list would be one-year rentals. That would not be the case if they decided to trade Calvin de Haan. He has the rest of this year and all of next year left on his contract. A lot of teams might be willing to pay a decent price for a defenseman that can play the way he can. He could be a great number three or four on a team that has aspirations of winning the Stanley Cup this year or next.
De Haan is not an offensive-minded guy. He only has one goal and six assists for seven points so that can’t be what you’re looking for if you add him. You can rely on him to play some hard minutes against good players. He isn’t the perfect defensive defenseman either but he can be put in good situations to be successful.
De Haan might be the guy on the roster (that is tradable) that can get the biggest haul in return. A team might be willing to pay a premium for someone who can come in and play on one of their top two pairs. On the Blackhawks, most of the defensemen aren’t in a position to have good numbers but certain teams would make de Haan look solid.
Of course, we have no idea if the Hawks will trade any of these guys for sure. They are the three that make the most sense to be on the market, however. This team has some nice young pieces in place that should be good for a while so giving them more ice time and adding more assets might be in the team’s best interest.
