Chicago Blackhawks: Three veterans to trade away at deadline
Carl Soderberg of the Chicago Blackhawks would make a great fit on a lot of teams.
The Chicago Blackhawks knew it was tough news when they lost Kirby Dach to injury while he was playing for Team Canada at the World Junior Classic. It didn’t make sense to bring anybody else in at the time from the outside to replace him but they did it anyway. Well, the thought on that has shifted as Carl Soderberg actually proved to be a pretty good signing. He has been a great bottom-six centerman for them so far this season.
In 31 games played, Soderberg has six goals and eight assists for 14 points. He isn’t there to contribute a bunch of offense but the fact that he has a little bit has been a nice touch. If he brought that level of play to a contender’s fourth line, they would instantly become an even better team right away.
Even if it is a simple draft pick they get for him, it is something for someone who wasn’t even going to be signed before the Dach injury. It is actually great asset management by Stan Bowman if he is able to pull off a trade involving him. His contract is up after this year so if any team calls offering pretty much anything, you know they are going to say yes and do it.
