Chicago Bears remaining free agent targets: CB Richard Sherman

One of the bigger names still available is veteran cornerback Richard Sherman. Although he is 32 years old and coming off a season where he played just five games, Sherman is still an above-average corner in this league.

At one point, people assumed he was done after the Seattle Seahawks chose to cut ties. Sherman came back from an Achilles tear to start 14 games for the San Francisco 49ers in 2018 and then, in 2019, Sherman earned a Pro Bowl nod. He was far from done, and this time around is no different.

Sherman still wants to play, and likely has a few years left. With the way the Bears’ current starting cornerbacks look, Sherman would be a worthy signing. It may sound contradictory saying that both Trufant and Johnson have a bit of injury worry while also pushing them to sign Sherman. But, Sherman is a chance worth taking. When he was healthy and on the field in 2020, he was still one of the better starting corners in football.

In Sherman, the Bears are not only getting a good player, but a vocal leader who brings an edge to his defenses. If Sherman is healthy, he’d be one heck of an addition. From there, the Bears would have to figure out which two corners would start or if one may be comfortable in the slot, but having that kind of depth would be a win either way.
