Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. WR. Frank Darby. 57. Arizona State. 6. player

With their last pick in the draft (thanks to the trade up for Fields), the Bears go wide receiver yet again. This time, it’s not a track guy like Schwartz. However, it’s a player who can also play in the slot if need be.

Arizona State’s Frank Darby only had a couple of games to put his talents on display in 2020, which made it really difficult to project his draft positioning. In 2019, Darby caught 31 passes for 616 yards and eight scores. He’s a guy who gets open, period. That’s what he is best at.

Because he is so crafty at getting open, Darby boasts a ridiculous yards-per-reception average on his career, at 19.7.

A lot like Allen Robinson, Darby doesn’t have elite speed. But, he’s fast enough. Because of his route-running, it appears as though Darby is much quicker than he is — again, similar to Robinson.

The Bears completely overhaul their wide receiving core this offseason behind Darnell Mooney, with Miller and Ridley getting replaced. What happens behind those guys is still yet to be seen, with Javon Wims also being a question mark.

For now, Darby can come in right away and play on special teams, as well as different four receiver packages. The Bears get younger at receiver and give Fields plenty of weapons in his rookie campaign.
