Chicago Bears 7-Round Mock Draft: A swing for the fences
By Ryan Heckman
The wide receiver position is going to be an interesting one for the Bears throughout the next month. Sure, Allen Robinson signed his franchise tag. But, do the Bears still entertain the idea of trading him? Hopefully, they’re able to keep him aboard.
Beyond Robinson, though, the Bears have a conundrum with Anthony Miller and Riley Ridley.
After last season, it seemed the writing was on the wall for Miller, whose attitude had done enough damage with the Bears’ brass. Ridley, meanwhile, is a mystery and hasn’t played much for some reason. If the Bears move on from both of them, they’ll need replacements immediately.
In the fifth round, Chicago goes after Anthony Schwartz out of Auburn. This would be the Miller replacement, right here.
Schwartz is a killer athlete and he’s looked at as one of those “track guys.” Lining up in the slot, Schwartz has the ability to get behind a defense in a hurry but he’s also tough. He doesn’t shy away from contact.
Even though one of his biggest strengths is his speed, Schwartz is also very quick with his feet. He knows how to get open. He’s crafty in the middle of the field, which would help whoever the quarterback ends up being.
Last season at Auburn, Schwartz caught 54 passes for 636 yards and three touchdowns. Throughout his career with Auburn, Schwartz also has 42 rushing attempts. He’s versatile.
