Chicago Bears 7-Round Mock Draft: A swing for the fences
By Ryan Heckman
When the Bears released Kyle Fuller, most fans were furious. To cut a former All Pro and Pro Bowl cornerback in his prime seemed foolish. Instead of letting him go, Chicago very well could have extended Fuller and avoided the backlash from their locker room and fan base. But, here we are.

Although the Bears signed Desmond Trufant to come in and start, they need some depth at cornerback and a potential future starter. In Round 3, that’s exactly what they get with Shakur Brown out of Michigan State.
Brown stands 6-feet tall and looks the part. He is a little concerning to some because he did not start much in college (just 12 starts total). But, his 2020 season was outstanding. Brown was fantastic in coverage and came up with five interceptions in just seven games. He also added four passes defended.
His ball skills are easy to spot. Brown is a ball hawk and, because he improved so much in his coverage last season, should present teams with a high ceiling.
To start with, Brown might fit best as a replacement to Buster Skrine in the slot. The Bears will want to find a way to get him on the field right away, and that’s the easiest manner to do so.
The other aspect of drafting a corner high like this is because Trufant has not been a model of perfect health over the last two years. If Trufant goes down to injury, Brown would likely be the guy to step in right away.
