Chicago Bears 7-Round Mock Draft: A swing for the fences
By Ryan Heckman
For those of us that are fans of the Avengers series, the following exchange certainly applies here.
”What did it cost?”
”Everything.”
To recap, the Bears give up this year’s first, next year’s first and a 2023 first, plus a fourth rounder next year and two sixth rounders this year.
But, they end up with Ohio State’s Justin Fields. The possibility of this pick being Trey Lance is also high, but there are rumors Fields could fall a tad and, with the 49ers seeing Trey Lance on his Pro Day and seeming impressed, we’re rolling with Lance to San Francisco for now.
This is either the trade that gives Pace plenty of job security or sends him out the door tripping over his velcro sneakers.
Fields is very intriguing as a prospect and there are certainly reasons why scouts could be a little scared off. But, the fact of the matter is, Fields is an excellent athlete who came up huge in some big games. We know plenty about him by now. He’s not going to fall too far, and the Bears would have to make a move like this in order to get their hands on him.
He comes in and immediately starts for the Bears, with Dalton taking a back seat — even though he was “promised the job.” This is a move that says the Bears are not ready to throw in the towel, despite some fans feeling that way.
Fields is the Bears’ franchise quarterback and they gave up a heck of a lot to make it happen. Will it pan out?
