Chicago Bulls Trade Deadline Addition: Troy Brown Jr.

Brown, 21, is a solid bench player with the anticipated role of defense and running in transition. His minutes have been sliced in half this season due to the Wizards’ draft selection of Deni Avijda coming in as a starter right away.

Last season, Brown averaged 10.4 points and 2.6 assists for the Wizards in around 25 minutes per game. This season, Brown has had a tough go averaging 4.3 points and 0.9 assists per game on half the minutes he saw last season. He is also shooting a tough 37.1 percent from the field this year.

His best offensive asset is running as a slasher because he shoots 69 percent from around the rim, which you don’t normally see for a guard/small forward. Because of that ability to get to the rim, his free throw rate for his career is 21.3 percent.

Brown has shown flashes of defensive potential. He can steal the ball consistently and take on tough matchups. He is also an excellent rebounder — per 100 possessions he averages nearly 10 rebounds per game.

Brown’s youth is certainly appealing to Bulls fans. He showed flashes of being a top-tier bench player last season on both sides of the ball, and he has plenty of time to return to that figure.
