A potential punt returner might be someone worth considering for the Chicago Bears.

The Chicago Bears are going to need someone to return punts in 2021. We don’t know for sure who that is going to be but DeAndre Carter is an option. He is listed as a wide receiver too but that isn’t what he is going to be used for on pretty much any NFL team that he signs with. He played half of 2020 with the Houston Texans and half with the Chicago Bears. They should consider bringing him back for help at the punt return position.

The Bears didn’t use Patterson as a punt returner. They used Dwayne Harris for the first part of the season but then he found himself on injured reserve. He is also someone to consider bringing back but the injury might scare them off. DeAndre Carter took the job when he came to Chicago and kept it through the end of the year (besides his COVID-19 stint). It’s not like he was this elite punt returner that they must have but some depth options would be nice to see.

The punt return game is probably more important than even the kick return game. A lot of kicks to open halves or start post-scoring drives end in touchbacks anyway. You can really get yourself some nice field position if the kick returner is someone you can trust. Carter is going to be out there trying to prove that he can handle that job again.
