Chicago Bulls: There’s potential for splash trade deadline deals
By Ryan Heckman
The Chicago Bulls would control John Collins’ destiny this summer
One deal the Bulls should consider making is a splash move with the Atlanta Hawks for their young forward, John Collins. If Chicago were to offer Lauri Markkanen and a first-round pick, that may be enough to get it done.
After all, the latest reports, again from The Ringer, say that Atlanta wants just that — a first rounder and a player.
The Hawks asked the Minnesota Timberwolves for Malik Beasley and a first-round pick, but the Wolves declined. That was a bit shocking to hear, but if the Bulls took that information and ran with it, maybe they could do enough to land Collins.
Collins is just the type of guy the Bulls would want to replace Markkanen. They need a power forward who is established as a scorer and rebounder, and Collins is just that. Markkanen still has not broken out like the Bulls have wanted, but Collins is only 23 years old and averaging over 18 points and 7.8 rebounds per game. He’s also shooting over 37 percent from three.
Again, the interesting aspect of the Bulls trading for a power forward is whether they can still play Williams confidently at the three. So far, it’s worked for them. Would it continue?
