Chicago Bulls: There’s potential for splash trade deadline deals
By Ryan Heckman
The Chicago Bulls would be a better team with Andre Drummond
The opinions on Andre Drummond are incredibly polarizing. Some folks don’t like the idea of a true, old school type of center. Drummond is exactly that, and poses zero threat from beyond the arc.
However, he is a walking double-double and can give the Bulls a legitimate center who mans the post. He’s a much more physical player than Wendell Carter Jr., and would allow the Bulls to bring Thaddeus Young off the bench yet again, where he’s thrived.
When Cleveland acquired Drummond, they did so with two expiring contracts and a second-round pick. It seems absurd that a 27-year-old big man averaging over 17 and 13 per game would cost so little, and now may be bought out. But, that’s where we are.
If Chicago was smart, they would ask Cleveland what they wanted in exchange for Drummond, and not allow him to be bought out. Right now, it seems the most likely destination for Drummond is Los Angeles. But, Chicago could offer a better pick than Los Angeles in a deal.
Drummond makes this a better team, period. The Bulls would be an improved roster with Drummond, and they should absolutely explore trying to land him in a deal today or tomorrow.
