Chicago Bears Late Round QB Options: Zac Thomas, Appalachian State

Similar to Ramsey, Zac Thomas out of Appalachian State could provide the Bears with an intriguing, dual-threat quarterback to develop. Thomas is a bit smaller at 6-foot-1, but plenty of quarterbacks have proven that height doesn’t always matter.

The problem with Thomas’ height, though, is that it does have an impact on his ability to make the tougher throws and it’s evident on tape. That’s an area he will have to improve upon as a potential pro.

On the other hand, Thomas’ skill set is fun and unique. He’s a mobile guy who has rushed for 1,300 yards in his collegiate career. Thomas has also ran for 19 touchdown over the past three seasons, proving to be the type of guy defenses need to account for in the run game.

Thomas’ ability to extend plays with his legs is an enormous positive and a reason why he will likely get a shot in the late rounds or as an undrafted free agent. He is more than comfortable moving in the pocket and outside of it as well — something the Bears haven’t gotten from a guy like Foles, and likely won’t get much from with Dalton.

In his time at Appalachian State, Thomas has thrown for nearly 7,000 yards in three seasons while tossing 69 touchdowns to just 23 interceptions.
