SS. Chicago Cubs. Javier Baez. 9. player. 9.

4. The Chicago Cubs need the most out of Javier Baez this season.

Javier Baez, when he is on his game, is one of the most entertaining baseball players to watch. He is elite with his glove and that has never changed. He makes sweet diving plays, uses his glove to make awesome reads on tough grounders, and makes no-look tags on base runners trying to steal. All of this is fine and awesome to watch but they need more from him at the plate.

After the 2019 season ended, Baez just finished his second straight season where he was one of the five best hitters in the National League. He looked like he was taking over as the new “best player” on the Cubs. In 2020, however, he was the most disappointing player on the whole team. He probably struggled the most out of anyone offensively.

When Baez isn’t an electrifying hitter like we know he can be, it takes a lot of wind out of the Cubs group. When he is going, it is easy for everyone else around him to feel good about their game as well. If he can get back to form, hitting in this four spot should be really good for him. You know that he is the perfect person to protect Rizzo and Bryant in the order if he is on his game.
