Chicago Cubs: This is the perfect 2021 starting lineup 2.0
2. A bounce-back season for Kris Bryant would make him a perfect Chicago Cubs two-hitter.
There aren’t many players in the entire sport that need a bounce-back season more than Kris Bryant of the Chicago Cubs. Things haven’t been the same since he won the MVP in 2016 but he doesn’t even have to be an MVP. In 2019 he was an All-Star caliber hitter but 2020 was just brutal. Now, a lot of Cubs were not good at the plate in 2020 so there has to be a reason. The hope can only be that they figure it out before Opening Day.
Bryant literally only slashed .206/.293/.351 for an OPS of .644. He only had four home runs and 11 RBIs. Six of those 11 RBIs came in the final series of the season. There were some injuries that only allowed him to play in 34 games out of 60 but those numbers still aren’t good enough. He needs to be better if he wants to be the two-hitter and if the Cubs want to have a good lineup.
We know what Bryant is capable of doing. He could come back this year and make us all wonder what happened in 2020 because he is playing so well. With a guy like Ian Happ hitting ahead of him, he should have a chance to drive in some runs and be hit into home himself. This is a big year for Bryant as his future with the team is cloudy beyond this year. A huge year could mean a huge payday.
