9. The Chicago Cubs nine-hitter will largely depend on the game situation.

Unfortunately, it sounds like the National League is going to go back to having the pitchers hit in their league. Some old-school fans might not like it but the appeal of watching guys like Jon Lester, Yu Darvish, or Kyle Hendriks hit just isn’t there. Those guys don’t hit well and it is almost always just a free out for the opposition. It also forces some teams to take their starters out too soon when their spot comes up in the batting order.

It just is so much less fun having the pitcher’s bat in favor of a designated hitter. Having someone like David Bote or Jake Marisnick hit in the lineup would be so much better. Well, it is what it is and whoever is pitching for the Cubs will be in this spot for all National League games.

When the Cubs play on the road in an AL ballpark, you can probably expect to see Marisnick or Bote in the lineup. If they are in the lineup in that instance, it certainly wouldn’t be ninth. In that case, as mentioned before, Hoerner would see this spot.

The Cubs have a good lineup. A lot of people are down on them right now but there are lots of players there that have done great things for this franchise. If David Ross gets them all playing to the best of their abilities, the Cubs will be players in the NL Central.
