Every year, one thing remains the same: the Chicago Bears and their quarterback polarizing quarterback situation.

For the past couple of seasons, it had been the argument of whether or not Mitchell Trubisky was cut out to be the franchise guy. That ship ultimately sailed, and it started to take off the moment the Bears traded for Nick Foles last offseason.

Following the 2020 season, it was apparent the two sides were headed for a mutual divorce.

Tuesday, the Bears made a move at quarterback. However, it wasn’t one of those which would stop you in your tracks — for a good reason, at least.

Bears general manager Ryan Pace caused a collective face palm when he and veteran quarterback Andy Dalton agreed to a contract to bring him to Chicago — as the presumed starter, too.

Now, the Bears have two veteran quarterbacks in Foles and Dalton, and the quest to end up with Russell Wilson looks to be dead. But, are the Bears totally out of the conversation in terms of drafting a quarterback? That’s up for debate.

NFL reporter Benjamin Allbright, who is most associated with the Denver Broncos, might keep Bears fans thinking when it comes to their draft strategy. Sure, the team could always draft a quarterback and keep three on the roster. Or, they could opt to trade Foles while drafting a rookie, and thus hold two quarterbacks.

The Broncos’ quarterback situation is anything but set in stone. Drew Lock is a likable guy and possesses that swagger so many fans like, but he’s also far from a finished product and has a tendency to throw games away early on.

Denver may benefit from a veteran coming in and pushing Lock, as Allbright has suggested in this thread. The Broncos may not even be looking at free agent options, but quarterbacks available via trade.

Look, the Bears might truly love to get rid of Foles and his contract, although it’s not as gaudy as it was when they originally traded for him. But, saving some cash and showing more investment in a rookie they could ultimately move up and draft? That would seem to take a bit of the stress off the shoulders of Bears fans.

If Allbright thinks the Broncos could ultimately go after Foles in a trade, maybe Pace listens. In fact, maybe Pace makes the first phone call.

Last year, they traded a fourth rounder for Foles. It sure would be a blatant admission of failure on Pace’s part to deal him a year later, especially because the Bears likely wouldn’t get anything higher than a fifth-round pick (and that’s being generous). The most likely return would be a sixth or seventh-round selection.

But, that would be perfectly fine with most fans. Chicago saves a little bit of money and nets another draft pick. A Foles trade would also cement the fact that they need to draft a quarterback; what a way to bring fans back in, right?
