Chicago Bears 7-Round Mock Draft: A post-Andy Dalton dilemma
By Ryan Heckman
In order to get a top quarterback in this year’s draft, the Bears will likely have to move up inside the top 15 or even the top 10. It depends on whom they are targeting. In this case, they are going for the draft’s no. 4 passer, Trey Lance out of North Dakota State. Here’s how they get him:
Bears get: No. 9 pick
Broncos get: No. 20 pick, Pick 226, 2022 1st Round Pick, 2022 5th Round Pick
Similarly to how the Bears wanted to pursue a trade for Russell Wilson, moving up for a quarterback this year will cost multiple first rounders. For Denver, the quarterback question isn’t exactly solidified either. Drew Lock may be replaceable as early as this season, so the Bears would have to come aggressive.
In Lance, the Bears get a kid with great size who knows how to make plays with his feet. Lance is most known for his 2019 campaign (only one game played in 2020 due to COVID-19). Back during his 2019 season, Lance totaled 42 combined touchdowns and threw — wait for it — zero interceptions.
He will take a little time to develop, thus he could end up sitting for the first few weeks, if not his entire rookie year.
But, as soon as Chicago starts losing with Dalton or Foles, you better believe it’s Lance time. He boasts some of the biggest upside out of any prospect in this entire draft class.
