Three NHL stars the Chicago Blackhawks can save via trade
Patrick Laine is a great winger that would score a lot of goals with the Chicago Blackhawks.
It is rare for a star player to be traded twice over the same season but it has certainly happened before. The Winnipeg Jets selected Patrik Laine with the second overall pick in the 2016 NHL Draft. Things were up and down there for him but there is no doubt he has superstar talent but he hasn’t had superstar production on a consistent basis yet.
The Jets traded him to the Columbus Blue Jackets in exchange for Pierre-Luc Dubois who was drafted one pick after Laine as the third overall pick in that 2016 draft. It is two wildly talented players who were clearly not happy with their current situations. The problem for Laine is that it still seems like he isn’t happy with what is going on in Columbus. He is getting benched from time to time in third periods (the same thing Dubois was dealing with) despite having some okay production.
Laine has nine goals and six assists for 15 points in 22 games split between Columbus and Winnipeg this season. He would love playing for the high octane Chicago Blackhawks offense that enjoys trading chances with their opponent. Laine’s shot is his biggest asset so having a passer like Patrick Kane on his team would be thrilling, especially on the power play. This is absolutely something both sides would feel good about.
The Blackhawks may or may not stand pat and they may or may not make a deal before the trade deadline. You can, at minimum, be certain that they will make moves this offseason. The Blackhawks are a team that is in a good spot to save some star players from tough situations.
