Chicago Bears: Ten missions to accomplish this offseason
7. The Chicago Bears need to be smart at the 2021 NFL Draft.
The Chicago Bears are a team that has some triumphs in the draft lately but warts outweigh them by a lot. For example, they have been awful in the first round during the Ryan Pace era. They have only hit on one first-round pick (Roquan Smith) during that time. The rest have been total busts or picks traded away for Khalil Mack. There are some late-round gems like Eddie Jackson and Darnell Mooney amongst a few others.
This might be Pace’s last year with the team if this upcoming draft doesn’t go well. If they don’t acquire a new quarterback on the trade market, one must be drafted at some point. We don’t know if we should trust him with making that selection but he does have Matt Nagy who nailed the Patrick Mahomes pick in Kansas City. Either way, the draft needs to be used to improve the team every year but this year is extra important.
8. The Chicago Bears need Cole Kmet to be a bright star in 2021.
The Chicago Bears made Notre Dame Fighting Irish standout Cole Kmet a high draft pick in the second round of 2020. The tight end position is something they have needed help with for a long time and they are hoping that Kmet is going to be the guy.
They used Jimmy Graham a lot more than him in 2020 which was a bit strange. It would be nice for the Bears to come up with a plan to use Kmet so much more this season. If they are going to have a good year on offense in 2021, using the tight end that they have high hopes for more effectively might be necessary.
