The Chicago Bears need a quarterback. They have needed one for the entire history of their franchise. In 100 years, they have never had a 4000-yard passer which tells you everything you need to know about the past. Now, all we can focus on is the future. Other than the occasional one-off the year, they will never have sustained success without an above-average quarterback. If they ever landed an elite quarterback, then we could be talking about a Super Bowl.

Russell Wilson of the Seattle Seahawks is considered to be one of those elite quarterbacks in the league. His name has come around a lot in this offseason’s rumor mill for trade. He said he wanted to stay with the Seahawks but listed the Bears along with three other teams as franchises that he would accept a trade to. If the Bears pulled it off, it would change the trajectory of the franchise for a long time.

There is one major reason the Chicago Bears should risk it all for Russell Wilson.

Some people are probably expecting the reason to have something to do with his impact on the field. That is too easy. Of course, he is going to impact the play on the field in a positive way. That part doesn’t need to be said. A Pro Bowl, future Hall of Fame player at the premier position of a quarterback would do that for any team.

The real reason is his all-around impact on the city. He would bring so much hope in a lot of different areas. The Bears haven’t had hope in a very long time and he would give them that right away. Everyone would be all in on the Bears again going into the 2021 season if they landed Russell Wilson. There are actually realistic expectations to win if he came too which would be nice.

It rallies the town when the Bears are good. Everyone gets excited about big-time Sunday games when the Bears have a Super Bowl-caliber team. That would happen upon the arrival of Wilson and his elite play.

He would also provide hope for a lot of people off the field. The things he does in the community are really something that the city of Chicago needs. He is big enough in terms of popularity and social status to help out in many ways. His social agenda would really help bring the city together in ways that no athlete has ever been able to. His play on the field and the way he carries himself off the field would really help him own the city.

For all of these reasons, the Bears should make this their number one priority. There are plenty of reports out there that this is the case so we just have to hope that something good happens. To be honest, if this doesn’t happen Ryan Pace and Matt Nagy might be looking for new jobs in 2022. Having someone like this come to town would bring buzz like no other.
