John Collins would be an excellent trade acquisition for the Chicago Bulls

The Atlanta Hawks and forward John Collins haven’t been able to come to terms on an extension, meaning he is on the last year of his contract and will become a free agent after this season. Collins has been a rumored trade deadline candidate for a while now, as he and Trae Young can’t seem to quite coexist in the existing system.

With the Bulls missing that dominant big man like the aforementioned Vucevic, Collins could be another fantastic acquisition. To get Collins, though, they’d likely have to give up Thaddeus Young, who has recently been reported as “unavailable” for trade.

Collins is typically good for an automatic double-double every night. This year, he’s posting 18.0 points and 7.6 rebounds, which is down from his 2019-2020 season totals (21.6 and 10.1). Collins is also an above-average three-point shooter, making him a multi-faceted threat at power forward.

If the Bulls sent over Young, an unprotected first rounder and a future second-round pick for Collins, that may be enough to get it done. However, the Bulls would want to prioritize re-signing Collins.

A future core including Zach LaVine, Collins, Coby White could be an exciting trio. But, the Bulls could also continue making moves and look to acquire a true point guard like this next guy.
