Chicago Bears News: Russell Wilson futures bet taken down
In a sign that their may be an imminent trade of Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson, online sportsbooks have removed futures bets regarding the next team that Wilson will play for and that could signal money for the Chicago Bears.
In Chicago, the Bet Rivers Sportsbook no longer offers the ability to bet on the future of Wilson.
As seen on the below screenshot, Bet Rivers is allowing bettors to still gamble on the future of Alabama quarterback Mac Jones in the 2021 NFL Draft, the future of New York Jets quarterback Sam Darnold, and the future of Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson.
So, why then, would Wilson be removed from the Sportsbook?
This is a move done by oddsmakers when they receive inside information. It is the same precedent that was set with Indianapolis Colts quarterback Carson Wentz and Arizona Cardinals defensive end J.J. Watt. The futures odds on both Wentz and Watt were taken down a day prior to their official transaction.
Following that theory, that would seem to indicate that a trade of Wilson may be imminent. Reviewing our notes and the past knowledge that there are four teams that Wilson would approve a trade to, and it stands to reason that the Bears may be at the forefront of this potential imminent trade of Wilson.
The four teams were the Bears, Dallas Cowboys, Oakland Raiders, New Orleans Saints and Dallas Cowboys. We can instantly remove the Cowboys and Saints from the discussion as the Cowboys signed quarterback Dak Prescott to a lucrative long-term contract extension on Wednesday and the Saints are bound their current Salary Cap situation. That seemingly leaves the Raiders and Bears. The Raiders have confessed their love for Derek Carr and it does not appear that they are involved in discussions as of yet.
With the Chicago Bears having made Wilson their off-season priority and now oddsmakers removing the futures line on betting for Wilson’s next team, there is smoke to the rumors and where there is smoke, fire is usually not far behind.
Time will ultimately tell if a trade of Wilson is indeed imminent. If it is, then the Chicago Bears could very well be on the verge of solving the quarterback position.
