Chicago Bears draft targets to compliment Russell Wilson: RB Khalil Herbert, Virginia Tech
Lastly, one of the mid-round prospects to look out for is running back Khalil Herbert out of Virginia Tech.
In Seattle, Wilson has typically had a couple of backs the team can ride in any given game. Whether it was Chris Carson, Rashaad Penny, Carlos Hyde, or even the fill-ins like Travis Homer or Bo Scarbrough over the years.
The Bears have one running back, and Herbert would give them a solid no. 2. The great thing about Herbert is that he’s very similar to David Montgomery. He’s a patient runner with excellent vision, and he also knows how to shed tacklers.
Herbert wouldn’t take Tarik Cohen’s third down abilities away from him, but rather give Montgomery a breather every now and then. He’s also a pretty solid short yardage back as well.
Last year, Herbert ran for 1,183 yards on 155 carries for a stout average of 7.6 yards per carry. He also scored eight touchdowns on the ground. He wouldn’t present too much opportunity on passing downs, but again, that’s where Cohen comes in.
The Bears must find a true backup running back this offseason, and Herbert would be an affordable option who could do all the things Montgomery already does well.
