The Chicago Blackhawks could use a little bit more versatility in their forward group.

The Chicago Blackhawks play a fair amount of games with eleven forwards and seven defensemen. That is nice when you want to get Patrick Kane as much ice as you can but you can still do that and have a more well-balanced lineup. If they made this trade for Mikael Granlund of the Nashville Predators, they would certainly be helping the balance of their roster.

With Jonathan Toews, Kirby Dach, Alex Nylander, and Andrew Shaw all out for a very long period of time, it is fair to want more forwards. It also makes sense why they have been running some lineups with only 11 guys playing a forward position but it can’t last like that. Getting some of these guys some playoff experience might be good for them so getting another player like Granlund is worth it.

He can play center and wing which is something that would really help this group as they try to really find some good permanent line combinations. The 2021 second-round pick is worth it for a guy on an expiring contract but can help them win down the stretch. At 29 years old, you can even think about retaining him beyond 2021 if both sides are in. He is a supremely talented player that (like Forsberg) gets a bit held back offensively in Nashville. If he came to Chicago you could probably expect some nice numbers.
