Blackhawks: Three risky trades to make with Nashville Predators
The Chicago Blackhawks would have really good LW depth if they added another really good one.
The Chicago Blackhawks could absolutely use some help on the wings. It would be extra appreciated if it came in the form of a Filip Forsberg. He is an incredibly skilled player that is being held back by the team and system he is playing with. If he was on the free-flowing Chicago Blackhawks, he would thrive almost every night. He is only 26 years old so his best might still be ahead of him but he needs to get out of there. He only has one year left on his deal after this current season is over so it is a low-risk high-reward type of trade.
Giving up a 2021 second-round pick and 2021 fourth-round pick is an easy decision for Forsberg. He would join the forward lineup and immediately make it better. He would be on the top power-play unit right away and would either play left wing on the first or second line at even strength. Having Alex DeBrincat, Filip Forsberg, and Dominik Kubalik as your left wings keeps you pretty deep on that side. The depth there would certainly be something and it would be fun to see them spread the wealth with the man-advantage.
The interesting thing about this trade would be the conditional first-round pick. The condition on that pick here is that Forsberg resigns with the Blackhawks before the 2022 draft. He will be eligible at the start of the new league year so that leaves about 12 months or so. If he resigns, the pick stays as a first-round pick in the 2022 NHL Draft. If he doesn’t resign, that first becomes a fifth in the 2022 draft. That is very fair for a very good player with one and a half more years on his current deal.
