Shedding some defenseman that we aren’t certain about might be worth it for the Chicago Blackhawks.

Dylan Strome would have no future place left on the Hawks if Eichel came to town. With Dach and Eichel down the middle and the potential return of Jonathan Toews, Strome would be forced to play wing and he probably doesn’t want to do that. You also can’t have a player like Strome on the fourth line either so trading him back in this deal makes a whole lot of sense. He is a good player but he doesn’t seem to be a guy who is going to be a full-time top-center.

Adam Boqvist is a very unique defenseman. He doesn’t defend very well at all so he relies on his offensive game to impact an NHL lineup. When he doesn’t produce points, he has very little to offer this team. He is a power-play specialist and can drive offense at even strength but he doesn’t give much more. If he went to Buffalo to quarterback their second unit behind Rasmus Dahlin, they might really benefit from it.

As for Nikita Zadorov, he has been a slight disappointment as well. He is always a guy who finds himself out of position quickly but he does have the ability to get back. It is unfortunate, however, that the Blackhawks have lost three trades involving Brandon Saad since Zadorov doesn’t seem like the answer. Either way, to be honest, Zadorov would fit right in with Buffalo. Of course, the first and second-round pick would have to go back as well.
