9. player. 9. . SS. Chicago Cubs. Javier Baez

Kris Bryant might have been the best player, Anthony Rizzo might have been the face of the franchise, but few players ever have been as exciting and electrifying as Javier Baez. This guy has been so good with his glove and bat for so long now and he is going to make a lot of money. Whether the Cubs are going to be the team to dish out that money remains to be seen but before the COVID-19 pandemic, it looked like he was going to cash in big time.

His big issue right now, as mentioned already twice now, was 2020. He did not have a good year during the short 60 game season so that might make some teams pause at the notion of giving him 200 million dollars. He only has one year left on his current deal with the Chicago Cubs and then he is a clear-cut free agent. It is tough because this is a guy that you want to keep around.

If Rizzo and Bryant go that is one thing but someone needs to be there to sell tickets. There is that fun new area around Wrigley once fans get back to normal and there is the new TV deal. Someone has to be marketable and “El Mago” might be one of the three most marketable players in the league. His contract situation puts him in danger of being gone before 2022 but they should do everything in their power to keep this stud.

There are other good players on the Cubs but it is tough that Javier Baez, Anthony Rizzo, and Kris Bryant are all in danger of hitting the market at the same time. The owners have been clear about the issues the pandemic has caused them so it is certainly going to be interesting to see how it goes.
