Chicago Bears: Polarizing Allen Robinson for Sam Darnold trades
By Ryan Heckman
The Chicago Bears deserve more than a realistic return for Allen Robinson
Being someone that is firmly against the idea of any potential Robinson and Darnold swap, this is the only scenario that makes even a lick of sense to me. Again, the Bears are banking on a young quarterback who has hardly shown enough to be given the keys to another franchise.
Why would they be satisfied with giving up one of the best receivers in the game for an unproven quarterback? If it was up to me, I would be asking the Jets for a high pick along with Darnold.
Look, whether or not Darnold pans out, the Bears should also be taking a quarterback in this draft. If they have Darnold and Foles on the roster, that’s not enough. This is a team that should be carrying three quarterbacks, without a doubt.
So, with an extra second rounder, the Bears may be able to get their hands on Kyle Trask. Otherwise, in the third round they could look at someone like Jamie Newman or Kellen Mond.
There’s still the possibility of Chicago getting a quarterback at pick no. 20, but after trading for Darnold, that first-round pick probably won’t end up being a quarterback. Although, a quarterback room of Darnold, Foles and a Mac Jones or Trey Lance would be highly competitive and make for some incredible training camp coverage.
In the end, this is a swap that simply doesn’t make sense. If the Bears wanted to give up a receiver of Robinson’s caliber, they better be asking for a second-round pick at minimum. The entire Robinson situation is such a delicate one that, frankly, Ryan Pace is looking worse and worse by the minute. The best-case scenario is that Pace finally gets a deal done and we can put all of this nonsense behind us.
