Chicago Bears: Polarizing Allen Robinson for Sam Darnold trades
By Ryan Heckman
The Chicago Bears may want just a little more in a trade involving Allen Robinson
Others may think a Robinson-for-Darnold swap makes sense, but the Bears cannot afford to let him go to begin with. If they were to entertain an offer involving Darnold, Chicago would have to demand more than just Darnold in return.
The Bears have done a good job of trading away draft picks over the last few years. Whether that was in a blockbuster for Khalil Mack, trading up just one spot to get Mitchell Trubisky, or other deals like moving up for Anthony Miller, David Montgomery or Travis Gipson. It’s time to finally go into a draft with more than enough picks.
This scenario is a bit more realistic, because the Jets know what they’re getting in Robinson. He’s a proven commodity. He’s a top-tier receiver in this league. In trading Darnold, too, you’re likely getting Justin Fields or Zach Wilson to pair with Robinson.
Ultimately, Robinson ends up getting the best quarterback he’s ever had in the pros. People have been clamoring for a competent quarterback for this guy for years, and now that he’ll have one, just watch what happens.
The Bears could ask for a couple of mid-to-late rounders in exchange along with Darnold. Even though this still isn’t close to what Robinson’s value should net in return, it’s the fact that he’s not on a current long-term contract that makes this difficult.
