The Chicago Bears could execute a one-for-one trade

The first possibility is obviously the original idea of dealing Robinson for Darnold straight up. In a way, it’s understandable why someone would suggest this as an idea.

Darnold is 23 years old and on the last year of his rookie deal, with a fifth year option available. If the Bears wanted to try and give him two years in Chicago, they have that in their back pocket.

However, committing to Darnold for more than one year without knowing what they’ll get is a foolish endeavor. Trading Robinson straight up for Darnold is a foolish endeavor, quite honestly.

The fact that Robinson would be on a tag-and-trade makes this delicate, sure. That makes things much more sticky. It’s going to be hard to get what Robinson is worth in a situation where he’s only playing on a 1-year deal.

Maybe the Jets work something out long-term once he’s in New York, but we don’t know that. We have no idea what will happen with him in New York.

Darnold for Robinson is simply too risky. It’s too dicey. This shouldn’t be an option.
