Chicago Blackhawks: Three takeaways from Detroit Red Wings series
3. Alex DeBrincat’s bounce-back year is really helping the Chicago Blackhawks.
It was a pretty good weekend for Alex DeBrincat against the Detroit Red Wings. In the two games, he had two goals and three assists. It has been a season of consistency for DeBrincat as he now has 11 goals and 14 assists for 25 points in 19 games played. There is no doubt that his year-long slump from a year ago is over. This is officially a “bounce back” year for him.
DeBrincat is the type of sniper who can also make plays. Playing with someone like Patrick Kane certainly helps but he is a great player on his own as well. After what he went through offensively in 2019-20, it is good to see him finally look like himself again. It is funny because a lot of NHL players would love to have DeBrincat’s “off-year” but we know he can be a 40 goal man in a regular NHL season.
We all know number 88 leads the charge offensively for the Hawks and he might even win the Hart Trophy again because of it. However, there is no denying the importance of DeBrincat’s play this year. If he keeps this up, the Hawks are going to continue their steady pace and make a real run at the playoffs. This weekend against the Detroit Red Wings showed that is possible for Alex DeBrincat.
The Blackhawks now have a well-deserved few days off. With the condensed schedule that the NHL has so far this season, most teams are playing every other night. They are back in action on Thursday for what will probably be the biggest test of the season. They better rest up now while they can.
