The Chicago Blackhawks played a two-game set with the Detroit Red Wings over the weekend.

The first one was on Saturday night and they didn’t fare too well as they were defeated by a final score of 5-3. It was a disappointing loss but it felt like one that they could rebound from the very next day. They did just that when they beat Detroit 7-2.

They are now 12-7-4 and safely above the playoff line for now. They are exceeding our expectations and a lot of people deserve credit. There are three major takeaways from this weekend series:

1. The Chicago Blackhawks are lucky to have Patrick Kane on their team.

The Chicago Blackhawks are where they are in large part due to the play of Patrick Kane. Over the weekend against Detroit, he had one goal and two assists. That is over a point per game and he didn’t even have a point in the Saturday loss. It makes sense that they lost the one game he didn’t have a point, it shows how important he is to their past, present, and future.

The one goal that he scored was the 400th of his legendary career.  It was an awesome scene as one of the greatest in the team’s history had such a big moment. The second it happened, that instantly became the story of the game. Yeah, it was nice to see them get the win over their long-time rival but Kane’s milestone was the big story to be taken away. It was so fitting that it was against the Red Wings, in the reverse retros, and on national television. Hopefully, Kane is able to keep it up and help get this team into the playoffs.
