We already know about Patrick Kane‘s dominance over the last week as it was highlighted by his 400th career goal.

The Chicago Blackhawks forward deserves a ton of credit for the way he has carried this team so far this season and the NHL decided to give it to him. They named him the Second Star of the Week for last week. It is a great honor to be a star of the week because the National Hockey League has so many great players doing great things every day.

Patrick Kane of the Chicago Blackhawks was named the NHL’s Second Star of the Week.

Kane led the NHL in scoring for the week as he had three goals and five assists for eight points. That helped him climb the NHL’s scoring lead race as he is now tied with Leon Draisaitl of the Edmonton Oilers for second in the league. They only trail Leon’s Edmonton teammate, Connor McDavid. It is a truly elite company for Kane to be involved with at this stage of the game.

If Kane keeps this up, two big things will happen. The first is that the Blackhawks will be a playoff team. He has carried them on his back as they don’t necessarily have the most talented roster. The other is that he will be considered for the Hart Trophy as the league MVP. Those are things to worry about at a later time but it is certainly exciting to think about.

Andrei Vasilevskiy of the Tampa Bay Lightning is named the NHL’s First Star of the Week. He went 3-0-0 with two shutouts in net for Tampa. Mats Zuccarello of the Minnesota Wild was the league’s Third Star as he had two goals and six assists for eight points. All three of these guys had fantastic weeks and are big reasons why their teams had success over that period.

As for Kane, this is just a reward for everything he has been able to accomplish. Scoring goals and setting them up the way he has this season has been a big reason why they are currently sitting in a playoff spot. Hopefully, things like this can continue for number 88.
