Chicago Bears: 3 Players that should be kept out of trade talks
By Ryan Taylor
Jaylon Johnson
Jaylon Johnson, the rookie out of Utah, had an outstanding season in his first year with the Bears. He and Kyle Fuller were constantly recognized throughout last season as one of the best cornerback duos in the NFL.
Johnson record 44 tackles, 15 passes defended, and one tackle for loss. He did not record a turnover, but he did excel in coverage. He was targeted 78 times this season and allowed a 56.4% completion percentage (27th in the NFL) and just five touchdowns.
The 21-year old had an impactful season in his first year with the Bears. He quickly stepped up to the much-needed cornerback position, after the Bears lost Bryce Callahan in the previous offseason. Like Roquan, he plays at an elite level at a young age that takes up minimal cap space with his rookie contract.
It’d be preferable to see him stay with the Bears and let a guy like Kyle Fuller go. There are many defensive assets that the Bears should rather see go than Johnson. Johnson helps the Bears because of his elite potential, young age, and small contract size. He, along with Smith and Montgomery, are the types of players the Bears will want to hang on to.
