Chicago Bears: 3 Players that should be kept out of trade talks
By Ryan Taylor
David Montgomery
David Montgomery, 23, posted an excellent sophomore season with the Chicago Bears last season. He ran the ball 247 times (fourth in the NFL) for 1,070 yards (fifth in the NFL) and eight touchdowns (tied-15th in the NFL). He tacked on an extra 54 catches for 438 yards and two receiving touchdowns too.
Montgomery faced a lot of challenges with the offense this season. The Bears offense only scored 22.4 points per game (23rd in NFL), behind the 20th PFF ranked offensive line, with a 37.3 percent rushing-play calling (27th in the NFL). Plus, Montgomery was without a true backup running back due to Tarik Cohen‘s ACL tear.
The multitude of Montgomery’s obstacles made his top-tier performance this past season much more impressive. Without much help from his coaches, offensive line, and overall offense, Montgomery was still able to produce elite running back numbers.
The Bears should attempt to hang on to Montgomery throughout their trade proposals. His impact on the Bears’ offense is seriously underappreciated due to the misconception of his supporting cast. He is the type of running back the can give the Bears a successful run-game for years to come. It would be a daring move to let one of the most valuable offensive skill players for the Bears to go in a trade.
