The Washington Football Team is parting ways with Alex Smith, and already the Chicago Bears have been linked to the veteran quarterback.

There has been nothing concrete yet, but the Bears have definitely been tossed around by some national media members in regards to a team that makes sense for Smith.

Last season, Smith completed his comeback from a gruesome leg injury. In a season where Washington went through a quarterback carousel, Smith ended up starting six games and going 5-1, including winning five straight after losing his first start.

Though the record is impressive, Smith’s performances weren’t necessarily the reason for Washington winning those games. Their defensive line was one of the most reckless and fierce units in 2020, which helped Washington sneak into the playoffs.

Now that Washington has moved on, Smith would like to continue playing. However, it should not be in Chicago.

The Bears, believe it or not, have a few options at quarterback going into next season. There’s always the possibility they address the position in the draft. With the 20th pick in the first round, the Bears could hope the right quarterback falls to them, or trade up to ensure it.

Chicago could also pull off a miracle trade for a guy like Russell Wilson or Deshaun Watson, but that seems unlikely.

There are also some intriguing free agents who would still be an upgrade over Smith.

It’s not saying much, but the following three free agent quarterbacks would be better suited for the Bears than Smith.
