Chicago Bears: Buster Skrine replacements that make them better
Of course, Deon Bush is an option to change positions and be a third option from within the organization but the Bears might be better of going outside and finding an actual cornerback in free agency. Terrance Mitchell would be a good player to consider. The Cleveland Browns were a very good defense in 2020 and Mitchell was out there for 1071 defensive snaps. He played in all 16 games for them as they made the playoffs for the first time in a long time.
He didn’t have an interception but that isn’t one of the big keys of his game. The Bears have Eddie Jackson and Kyle Fuller to intercept passes. What he does do well is keep people from getting past him. He had 65 total tackles in 2020. 54 of them were solo and 11 of them were assists. Two of them were even for a loss. He also had 13 pass deflections and forced three fumbles. This is a really good player that is looking for a new contract this offseason.
Mitchell is 28 years old but he will be 29 by the time the next season starts. It is funny because this would actually be a reunion as he played for the Bears at one point. The Dallas Cowboys drafted and cut him before the Bears signed him to the practice squad. He was up and down with the team and their practice squad and pretty much went through the same thing with the Dallas Cowboys and Kansas City Chiefs after that as well.
His final year with the Chiefs was awesome and that earned him a contract with the Cleveland Browns. Now, he looks like a player who can really help a team and be a good corner for them. The Chicago Bears would be smart to consider him if they decide not to use one of their own.
