Chicago Bears Mock Draft: Marcus Mariota in, Allen Robinson out
By Ryan Heckman
So, the Bears have Mariota and Foles for the 2021 season. But, it would not hurt for them to take a shot on a late-round quarterback prospect at this point. For that reason, drafting Sam Ehlinger out of Texas is the move here.
Ehlinger is a quarterback prospect who will face an uphill battle in the NFL from the get-go, and if he’s ever to have a shot at starting, he’ll need to sit for a couple of years.
The best thing that can be said about Ehlinger is his ability to lead a group of men. He’s a heck of a teammate and leader on the field. This kid has never been afraid of the moment. He will do whatever he can to make a play, move the chains and win a football game.
That type of player is great to have and fun to watch while in college, but ultimately his weaknesses will showcase themselves as a pro. Ehlinger, while he’s a dual-threat quarterback, lacks in arm strength and has questionable accuracy. He will have to improve greatly as a passer to have a chance at playing a down in the NFL.
Ehlinger might be a fun gadget player to use on occasion, somewhat like the Saints to with Taysom Hill, but beyond that, he’s going to need quite a bit of work. As a sixth rounder, though, Ehlinger is a guy worth taking a chance on.
