DL. Louisiana Tech. Milton Williams. Pick Analysis. 5. player. 57. Scouting Report

The Bears found it difficult to stop the run at times during the 2020 season. Losing Eddie Goldman hurt them big time, and having Bilal Nichols fill in there looked good on the surface, but Nichols got manhandled often there.

Being better served opposite of Akiem Hicks, Nichols will be able to move back to his normal position in 2021. But, behind he and Hicks, the Bears need some longevity. They may be unable to re-sign Roy Robertson-Harris, who has become their mainstay rotational guy at that spot.

In Round 5, the Bears find their next rotational lineman in Milton Williams out of Louisiana Tech. Over the past two seasons, Williams has totaled 104 tackles, 19 tackles for loss and 10.0 sacks.

That’s pretty solid production, but his best trait is in the run game. Williams prides himself in stopping the run, and it’s evident on every snap. This guy is not going to be the most athletic profile at his position, but Williams simply gets the job done.

In college, he played more on the edge and at times on the interior, but in the NFL, Williams projects mostly as a player with his hand in the dirt. His pass rushing skills may not translate completely to the NFL as, again, he’s not the most athletic.

But, Williams offers the Bears a rotational pass rusher who can give them 10-20 snaps per game and be effective especially in short yardage stopping situations.
