One of the offseason priorities that could end up on the back burner due to quarterback, wideout and offensive line is the fact that the Bears need a starting strong safety next to Eddie Jackson. With the pick obtained from Buffalo in an earlier trade, the Bears get their man here in the third round.
Florida State has had a mostly forgettable couple of years, but one highlight comes in the form of defensive back Hamsah Nasirildeen. He’s looked at as more of a position-less type of defensive back, but certainly possesses the qualities of a strong safety.
There are a few players like Nasirildeen around the league, who make their hay in sub packages and things like that. But, Nasirildeen truly has the makings of a strong safety if Sean Desai put him there.
First of all, this is a player who is unafraid to make a tackle. He’s a willing assistant in the run game. His physical traits are stunningly present. He doesn’t lack in lateral quickness, nor strength.
One of the reasons he may drop a little is due to the ACL tear he suffered in 2019, so teams may be a little hesitant. Health is something he’ll have to prove, but then again, health was a question for Eddie Jackson at one point — and he’s turned out just fine.
