Chicago Bears Mock Draft: Marcus Mariota in, Allen Robinson out
By Ryan Heckman
With Robinson leaving town, the Bears would need to frantically replace him. Finding a replacement for a guy who has been literally a third of the passing offense over the last three years isn’t just going to happen by some sort of magic.
But, at pick no. 20, if the Bears can get a little luck, they might land their next WR1 in Rashaad Bateman out of Minnesota.
After a strong 2019, Bateman and the Gophers had a forgettable 2020 season mostly due to poor quarterback play from Tanner Morgan. The 2019 campaign saw Bateman catch 60 passes for 1,219 yards and 11 touchdowns — that’s an average of 20.3 yards per receptions, which is quite frankly ridiculous.
Don’t forget just how good Bateman is after watching the Gophers in 2020. This guy is a legitimate number one wide receiver in every facet.
First of all, Bateman just ran his 40 at the Exos combine and, let’s just say it wasn’t slow.

So let’s get this straight. Bateman is a 6-foot-2 tower weighing roughly 210 pounds who runs a sub-4.4? Not only that, but Bateman’s footwork is some of the quickest you’ll see in this class — reminiscent of Robinson.
Bateman and Darnell Mooney would be a scary, young duo for the next several years. These two would give Mariota, or whomever the quarterback is in the future, two solidified options in the passing game on the outside.
At the moment, Bateman is projected to go anywhere between picks 14 and 30. He’ll be a first rounder, no doubt, so if the Bears see him there at 20, it will be tough to pass him up.
