Chicago Bears Mock Draft: Marcus Mariota in, Allen Robinson out
By Ryan Heckman
With their final pick in the draft, the Bears go after a tight end from Bowling Green, Quintin Morris. This coming year, the Bears have the option of cutting Jimmy Graham to save some money. However, that might not be the best option, considering how valuable he proved to be in the red zone last year.
Cole Kmet is obviously the future of the position, but behind he and Graham, the Bears don’t have much. Demetrius Harris was the blocking tight end last year, but he may not be back.
Speaking of blocking, Morris is more than a willing blocker. At Bowling Green, he proved he could line up anywhere as a blocker and succeed. Doing the dirty work will allow Morris to earn a spot on this roster, first and foremost.
However, he’s also a threat on passing downs. Don’t let his stout blocking fool you. He can catch the football, but was somewhat limited last year at Bowling Green. Between 2018 and 2019, Morris caught 97 passes for 1,165 yards and 11 touchdowns. He’s a bigger target for obvious passing situations, and with some work on his route tree, Morris could carve out a role as a potential no. 2 or no. 3 tight end as a pro.
The Bears would benefit greatly by drafting Morris as they wouldn’t have to worry about paying a third tight end in free agency, and his youth would allow him to stick around a while, assuming he earns the job.
